BOOKBINDING WORKSHOP @ OD ARTS FESTIVAL, EAST AND WEST COKER, SOMERSET

Participate in a twine inspired bookbinding workshop where you will learn how to create some simple sewn book structures in the unique surroundings of Dawe’s Twineworks.

Spooling, twisting, braiding, twine walk, rope walk, twisting heads, fast and loose – the process and machinery used in traditional twine making has a unique language that evokes movement. Taking this as a starting point Caitlin’s workshops will provide an opportunity to learn and enjoy slow and productive movement, and to reflect on the industrial history of the Twineworks whilst making.

BOOKBINDING FOR BEGINNERS @ CEDAR FARM, MAWDESLEY, LANCASHIRE 

Saturday 10th June 2023

10am - 12.30pm

During this workshop participants will learn how to fold, sew and manipulate paper using traditional bookbinding tools and will learn several versatile book structures including a simple sewn pamphlet book and a Japanese stab stitch book which can be used as sketchbooks, gifts or as the basis for creating artists' books.

On completion of the workshop students will leave with a set of their own books and the skills to make more at home using minimal equipment.

The workshop will be held at Cedar Farm in the light filled Hive Space (upstairs in The Barn) a fully accesible space with a lift for wheelchair users. The workshop will be small, relaxed and friendly and we will pause for a short tea break about halfway though the session. HARDBACK CONCERTINA BOOKBINDING WORKSHOP @ CEDAR FARM, MAWDESLEY, LANCASHIRE

During this workshop participants will learn how to create a hardback concertina book, that can be used as a sketch book, photo album gift or as the basis for an artist book. You will learn how to fold and manipulate paper and to make hardback covers with book cloth, step by step.

On completion of the workshop students will leave with their own book and the skills to make more at home using minimal equipment.

The workshop will be held in the light filled Hive Space (upstairs in The Barn) The space is fully accessible with a lift available for wheelchair users. We will pause for a short tea break halfway through.
