There Was A Ring Of Smoke Above The Ring

This piece was created for International Women’s Day 2018 in the exhibition, Sylvia’s Sisters at Manchester Metropolitan University. The work is inspired by Olympic Boxer, Nicola Adams’ OBE experience of boxing matches in working mens clubs in Leeds in the 1990’s. Risograph printed text in blue on sugar paper.

The work is a continuation of my research into the language of boxing and the lives of my ancestors who were famous fairground boxers in the 1920’s and 30’s.
